NGO “Agency of Local Initiatives” is a human rights organization that provides assistance to persons affected by war in protecting and restoring their rights. The organization works to ensure access to justice, provide social services and support vulnerable categories of the population, integrating human rights activities with the reconstruction and development of territorial communities.

The NGO “Agency of Local Initiatives” invites young professionals, senior students and graduates to join the internship program!

This is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the practical work of a non-governmental organization engaged in human rights activities and support for victims of war.

The internship will allow you to master key skills in working with beneficiaries, gain practical experience in providing primary and secondary legal assistance, learn how to work with vulnerable categories of the population and participate in the recovery and development processes of communities.

What awaits you?

  • 3-month paid internship in a comfortable office in the city. Kharkov;
  • mentoring from experienced lawyers and human rights defenders working with victims of war;
  • active participation in the provision of primary and secondary legal assistance, preparation of documents and support of cases;
  • involvement in the organization of mobile trips and work withcommunities of the Kharkiv region;
  • participation in internal procedures, preparation of reports anddocumentation, formation of practical professional skills;
  • the opportunity to get recommendations or, if there is a vacancy, to join the team of the Agency of Local Initiatives.

Who can participate?

  • adult students of senior courses of higher education institutions of Ukraine or postgraduate students;
  • have Ukrainian citizenship and reside in Ukraine;
  • able to quickly adapt and learn;
  • have excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • have basic knowledge of civil, administrative andcriminal law, as well as an understanding of human rights legislation;
  • interested and motivated to work with victims of war and to contribute to the improvement of human rights practices;
  • ready to actively participate in team work, mobile outings and practical cases in communities.

If vacancies arise in the organization, we will invite the most successful trainee (s) to join the Agency team and become part of the human rights team to support the victims of war.

If there are no vacancies at the time of completion of the internship or there is no possibility of further cooperation, the trainee will receive a personal recommendation and career advice from our team, recommendations for development in the field of human rights and advice for further professional growth.

01 Application

02 Practical task

Complete a specific task that will help us assess your interest in human rights activities and willingness to work with vulnerable categories of the population.

03 Interview

Go through a short interview with the internship curator. We will discuss your expectations and opportunities for development in the field of human rights.

04 Internship

Upon successful completion of the selection, you start your 3-month paid internship, where you will get practical experience working with victims of war, learn how to accompany legal cases and join the organization.

How will the internship take place

The internship consists of two stages.

The first stage is a training internship lasting 2 weeks. The purpose of this stage is to familiarize the trainee with the work of the Agency, internal processes, team and practitioners. During the training, an installation meeting is held, the trainee gets acquainted with the internal procedures and documentation, performs the first practical tasks to acquire basic skills.

The second stage is an in-depth internship lasting more than 2 months. At this stage, the trainee is involved in practical activities: provision of primary and secondary free legal assistance, participation in mobile trips of lawyers to territorial communities of Kharkiv region, preparation of working documents and reports.
