SportWave in Lyubotyn

1. How was it?

The Lyubotyn community is constantly facing stress, so creating a safe space for the psychological and physical recovery of residents has become a vital necessity. The lack of reliable equipment for classes significantly limited the activity of local youth. Residents of the city, parents and coaches united in the initiative group “SportWave” to change the situation on their own.

Partnership with the NGO “Agency of Local Initiatives” helped turn people's aspirations into tangible results.

2. Impressive results

Thanks to the financing involved, the community has been able to form a complete environment for development. Now children do not have to stand in line for a single ball, and high-quality equipment is enough for simultaneous full-fledged training of large groups.

New professional equipment was able to distract schoolchildren from smartphone screens, returning the joy of live communication and dynamic movement.

3. Challenges and Achievements

The most difficult stage was the lack of experience in self-implementation of grants, because activists were afraid of bureaucratic procedures and reporting. However, this challenge was the impetus for development. By distributing the roles, the initiative group and NGO “Agency of Local Initiatives” established an effective model of cooperation, where each focused on their strengths.

Overcoming paper work together proved to be a powerful management lesson that proved that the most difficult tasks become real if acted in a coordinated and open way.

4. Impact on the community

Joint classes have become a kind of bridge between all residents of the city. Sports grounds have become a safe zone without any social barriers, where young people make new friends and learn mutual support.

Teachers were given the freedom they needed to implement modern teaching techniques, and parents felt real relief when watching sports relieve internal tension and restore calm to children.

5. What did the project leave?

The most valuable result of the initiative was the sincere, unshakable faith of the inhabitants in their own strength. The initiative group saw in practice that true self-organization and willingness to take responsibility for a common cause can create profound and lasting change.

Lyubotyn has gained not only a durable resource to preserve the health of the community, but also a strong, cohesive community that now has practical skills and an internal willingness to implement ambitious new plans.

6. Who creates change

The mini-grant was implemented within the framework of the project “Support for Community Initiatives” with the financial support of the international humanitarian organization HEKS/EPER (Switzerland) in coordination with the International Fund for Public Health Alliance.
