Attestation of deputies of local councils

The NGO “Agency of Local Initiatives” implemented in the city. Kharkiv project “Attestation of deputies of local councils”, which has been implemented since 2016 in the country and is a significant milestone in the promotion of democratic processes and transparency of local self-government. In the difficult conditions of war, the organization's team was able to implement an effective tool to evaluate the work of deputies and increase their accountability to citizens.

How it was

The project was carried out between January and June 2024 in Kharkiv, a city that is under constant challenges due to military aggression. Despite all the difficulties, including regular shelling and communication problems, the organization managed to implement what was planned by focusing on increasing transparency and accountability of local deputies.

Results that speak for themselves

• The work of 79 deputies of Kharkiv City Council is evaluated: Data collection and analysis of the activities of deputies made it possible to objectively assess their activity, attendance of meetings, involvement in solving community problems.
• New communication channels: Deputies began to actively use modern tools such as Telegram channels, Instagram pages and video reports on Facebook, which significantly increased the level of transparency of their activities.
• Engaging citizens: The number of deputies using two-way communication with voters increased to 60, which allowed the opinion of the community to be taken into account in decision-making.

Challenges and Achievements

The project was implemented in the face of daily shelling and instability, which made it difficult to collect and verify data. However, these challenges only underscored the importance of attestation as a tool for improving local self-government. The organization has adapted to new realities by using online formats for data collection and communication.

The project was an important step towards a transparent and accountable society. He not only evaluated the activities of deputies, but also stimulated positive changes in their work. Engaging citizens and introducing new approaches to communication have helped build trust between the community and elected officials.

He raised the level of awareness of citizens about the work of deputies, promoted the introduction of innovative solutions and attracted young people to the process, which became an active participant in democratic transformations.
